DEALING WITH STRESS
Hello everybody, today I want to talk you about of a topic very important for our Chilean society in these days: the “Dealing of Stress”.
According to studies by School of Psychology, in partnership with Synovate Chile, conducted a survey that sought to measure the stress level present in all Chileans. The sample, nationally representative, revealed that one in four Chilean has a high stress level, and 27 percent of the population had collapsed to handle difficult situations.
This situation is very preoccupying, because we as health professionals are in charge of dealing stress.
Stress is defined as the consequence of the failure of an organism to respond appropriately to emotional or physical threats, whether actual or imagined. Stress symptoms commonly include a state of alarm and adrenaline production, short-term resistance as a coping mechanism, and exhaustion, as well as irritability, muscular tension, inability to concentrate and a variety of physiological reactions such as headache and elevated heart rate.
Among the causes of stress are: physiological, these causes are related to diseases and injuries of the body, psychological vulnerability is related to emotional and cognitive, social and environmental.
Some consequences of ongoing stress can generate anxiety states ending blocking the functioning of cognitive processes, i.e., our mental clarity.
Recurrent concern, for example, can invade our sleep and stay awake most of the night, and fears that are imposed on all other thoughts are able to distract us from what we are doing.
The central feature of the reaction that causes us stress is uncertainty, an uncertainty that triggers an alert to confirm the possibility of a threat.
But there are different ways or methods to address the problem of stress. There are stress management techniques: massages, leisure activities, relaxation exercises, opt for alternative medicine such as yoga, etc.
